Revitalization of brahmacari ashram
As opposed to New Devotee Training, which primarily addresses people living outside, this Initiative speaks to ashram life inside an ISKCON temple—a life with its own particular needs and parameters. Seasoned temple commanders and bhakta leaders are meant to help full-time devotees appreciate the challenges and rewards of their environment. What makes for an outstanding bhakta program leader? Does it matter if bhakta leaders are celibates or householders? Many temples contend with limited resources. How can the community help support full-time temple life?
Each principle is divided according to what an ashram should be expected to provide a brahmacari and what is reasonable to expect from a brahmacari. 1. Exemplary Sadhana – Brahmacaris should be role models of sadhana for the rest of society. Especially attendance at the morning program and chanting attentive japa. |

A summary of our team’s core strategy from our initial organizational meeting in Dallas, January 22 and 23, 2005: To identify, through our own team-thinking as well as the input from other ISKCON leaders and members, the core principles and values of a North American brahmacari ashrama. Team members would then apply these values and principles to revitalize their own ashrama situations. When our ashramas are stable and promising, then we would reach out to other North American ISKCON ashramas. |
